Communities thrive only with a robust support system in place. How can we create such a caring and resourceful system to begin with? Recently our very own Harmony Li and Florence Cheng had the pleasure to share the stage with Roger Wu, Alan Cheung, Eric Ho, Ka yan Sze and Warren Luk at different occasions to share how to sow the seeds of partnerships and build vibrant communities. Here are some food for thoughts from the sessions:
💪🏼 enable meaningful participation as the key to community building: while we have seen community engagement initiatives flourishing in the community, can we convert these engagements into long term ones and how can we enable gaaifongs to take more ownership in the process?
💯 identify and groom community champions: having community champions is essential in cultivating long-term engagements. How might we identify them and equip them with the right tools to shine?
💡 it all starts with establishing the "right" process: to ensure the community engagement process is set up properly so that meaningful participation can happen
Creating thriving neighbourhoods, therefore, requires much emphasis on "software" - relationship building and knowledge transfer among community stakeholders. It doesn't have to start with facilities, but rather with people themselves. Check out more of our examples in Sham Shui Po featured in Design in Action, curated by Hong Kong Design Centre!
